The Essence of Nostalgic Culture and Vintage Watches,——Baltany’s Journey in Reviving Retro Timepieces
Foreword
Baltany is committed to evolving into a specialist in reviving vintage culture, crafting respected microbrand timepieces through contemporary reinterpretations of classic watches and original designs infused with retro elements, all while maintaining high-quality craftsmanship at accessible price points. At the initial stage of brand establishment,I had been engaged in watch design, production, and manufacturing work behind the scenes,Starting from 2021, we founded the Baltany brand in China and began to sell products globally via the internet. You can learn more about Baltany`s story behind the founding of Baltany through our brand introduction. What kind of watches does Baltany create? What does Baltany stand for? With hard-earned industry expertise in horological craftsmanship, we have a clear understanding of how to manufacture a high-quality watch and put it into practice during production. Beyond exceptional quality and accessible price points,Joye will share with you some interesting reflections and explorations of Baltany on its journey of reviving retro culture over the past four years since the brand's inception.
I. Vintage Aesthetics & Nostalgic Culture
The DNA of Baltany is rooted in our team's philosophical exploration of nostalgic culture and an enduring passion for vintage Watches.
Vintage is the design's humility before time.
Horologists of the mid-20th century conjured precision aesthetics within minuscule dimensions through constrained tools: Bold indices on military timepieces concealed encrypted battlefield communications; the rotating bezels of diving watches encapsulated the courage of deep-sea exploration;and the Roman numerals on railway pocket watches bore witness to the thunderous roar of the Industrial Revolution.
Nostalgia is humanity's instinct to resist forgetting.
Proust rediscovered his entire childhood through the scent of Madeleine's cake. Similarly, when your fingertips trace the artificial crackling texture on an aged leather watchband, and when the church-bell-like ticking sound faintly echoes through the bronze watch case, certain dust-laden memories may suddenly come alive: perhaps it's the iron pocket watch in your grandfather's drawer, or perhaps it's the moment when the male lead in an old movie rolls up his shirt sleeve. This kind of intergenerational emotional resonance transforms wearing a vintage watch into a private ritual of time travel.
In this era dominated by digitalization and speed, each rotation of the watch hands seems like a silent act of rebellion. While smartwatches dissect time into frigid data streams,Baltany, in the name of vintage charm, weaves time into a gentle, nostalgic poem.We believe that a watch is not merely a timekeeping tool, but also a keepsake that enables the wearer to converse with the passage of years — those mottled copper cases, the yellowed lume, and the faint tremors of gears meshing together all narrate a story about "eternity."
II. Vintage-style watches and their retro elements as well as retro design language
It may be challenging to establish a precise definition of vintage-style watches, but generally speaking, a vintage watch refers to a timepiece that draws design inspiration from classic historical models, and creates a sense of "nostalgia" and "era-specific imprint" by replicating or integrating traditional aesthetic elements with modern watchmaking technology. The essence lies not in exact replication of antique timepieces, but in evoking memories and emotional resonance of mechanical watchmaking's golden age through design language, material craftsmanship, and meticulous detailing.
Vintage-style watches represent the horological industry's creative reinterpretation of history. By balancing design details, material techniques, and modern technology, they revitalize classical aesthetics for contemporary contexts. These timepieces transcend mere timekeeping instruments to become cultural icons, embodying the technical ethos and artistic aspirations developed throughout watchmaking history.
Many renowned watch brands feature iconic designs with enduring aesthetic elements that continue to be cherished by enthusiasts across generations.
For example:
Cream-colored or gradient dials
Mimicking the yellowing effect caused by aging oxidation on antique watches.
Cathedral Hands
Inspired by the spires of medieval cathedrals, commonly seen in pocket watches from the early 20th century.
Railroad Track (markings/indices)
Fine minute markings on the outer chapter ring, replicating the precision-oriented style of early railroad pocket watches.
Old color luminous
A slightly mottled coating of luminous material, mimicking the faded texture of vintage radium-based paint.
Box-shaped Crystal
Domed acrylic glass or coated sapphire, recreating the iconic design of 1960s dive watches.
Aged metal:
bronze case (oxidized green over time),brushed steel case edges hand-polished to show signs of “use wear”.III. Baltany's Retro Endeavor: Modern Reinterpretations of Classic Models
Within Baltany's Retro Universe: What Elements Constitute the Temporal Key to the Past?
We have been engaging in some cautious or bold explorations and practices in terms of style selection, design and development, material and craft selection, as well as the handling of appearance and styling, among other aspects. The caution stems from our deep concern about not being recognized and accepted, while the boldness lies in the fact that this endeavor will ultimately carry our dreams. Fortunately, after four years, we have received a lot of applause and praise. Through the medium and carrier of Baltany products, we have made numerous friends from all corners of the globe.
High-end luxury brands serve as symbols of identity and status nowadays, but during the golden age of wristwatches, they were merely practical timekeeping tools for the general public, indispensable companions in the daily lives and work of our ancestors, taking center stage in their existence, while decoration was merely a secondary, peripheral function.
In that era, numerous classic wristwatch models emerged, some of which led trends and enjoyed immense popularity for a time. Certain models have endured to the present day, while some classic elements from these models are still utilized by various watch brands, and some models continue to be highly sought after in the secondary market.
I have always believed that these classics should not be relegated to the status of "overlooked gems." I have carefully selected some of my favorite models and reimagined them with my own ideas, bringing them to life with high-quality craftsmanship.
However, achieving this was no easy feat. Apart from the D12, I didn't have the original models in my limited collection. I had to rely on limited images to gradually determine various dimensions of the wristwatches. Through 3D printing and multiple rounds of prototyping, I was finally able to finalize a satisfactory case structure that meets our wearing requirements and an appearance that aligns with the overall feel of the original designs.
1、Baltany D12 Vintage Military Field Watch (April 2021)
The Dirty Dozen (D12 watches) are among the most legendary timepieces in the history of military-issue watches.Twelve watch manufacturers produced the same batch of orders for the British Ministry of Defence. Although these 12 models share similar dials, sizes, and overall appearances, there are subtle differences in their cases and hands.
When planning the first Baltany Dirty Dozen watch, we had already envisioned producing a series of models. I am particularly fond of this design, which is simple and features a clean dial with no extraneous elements. I intend to present and pay tribute to this classic model by using different case sizes, various surface finishes, both quartz and mechanical movements, and experimenting with different hands. After comparing the proportions of the small seconds hand to the central hour and minute hands in the VD78 quartz movement and the Chinese ST1701 movement, and finding them to be nearly identical, Baltany commenced production of first Baltany D12 version.
Apart from staying faithful to the original design in terms of overall style and retaining classic elements of the D12 military watch, such as the railroad-style chapter ring and simple Arabic numerals, the Baltany Dirty Dozen watch has also been upgraded in terms of water resistance and robustness. Moreover, to meet diverse needs, we have launched multiple versions featuring different sizes, movements, and hand styles.
For specific details, please read: <Baltany makes several watches that pay homage to Dirty Dozen>.
The Baltany S2025, launched in April 2021, was the earliest D12 version released by Baltany. Its case features a sandblasted finish, which effectively reduces surface scratches from daily use. Additionally, it employs a sapphire domed glass crystal to enhance the watch's robustness and a screw-down crown to improve water resistance. The hands are cathedral-style. For the S2025, we boldly opted for a white dial with a slightly grayish hue and a natural emery-grain texture, which not only exudes a vintage and weathered charm but also aligns with the field requirements of military watches for legibility and anti-reflection.

The Baltany S2019 is the first quartz D12 model introduced by Baltany and has also garnered the highest praise among users. The Baltany S2019 dirty dozen military field watch shares the same exterior design as the S2025.
To meet the needs of those with larger wrists and those who particularly prefer manual-wind movements, we also launched a 42mm manual-wind movement version of the D12, the Baltany S2022, which is currently sold out.
There is also the bronze D12, model S2058, which features the Seagull S3600 manual-wind movement. The hands of the S2058 differ in shape and design from those of the original D12. The brushed finish and gold color of the hands complement the rough texture and hue of the bronze case well.
The S2032 is a 39mm quartz version of the D12, with a brushed finish applied to its case. The 39mm size accommodates most wrist sizes.
Another variant is the D12 with a calendar function. The S2081 cleverly places the calendar window within the subdial. When you need to read the date, it's easy to locate, and when you're not paying attention to it, the calendar window doesn't disrupt the balanced and natural layout of the subdial. I'm quite satisfied with this design. Additionally, we've added a deep brown dial option.
If you're a fan of vintage Dirty Dozen watches, Baltany is an option you absolutely shouldn't miss. Be sure to visit our website to browse and select from our offerings. Baltany provides the most extensive and diverse range of Dirty Dozen watches at incredibly affordable prices.
2、Baltany Homage to Vintage Bubbleback Series Watch (January 2022)
Rolex produced its first self-winding wristwatch in 1932, featuring an Oyster case. Similar to "Dirty Dozen watches," "Bubbleback" is not an official name. The term "Dirty Dozen watches" originated from a World War II movie title, while "Bubbleback" earned its name due to the round, prominently domed case back. The protrusions were designed to accommodate the rotor of the automatic movement. Of course, with technological advancements, modern watches no longer require a specially designed domed back to house the rotor.
The Bubbleback holds a prominent position and status in the history of wristwatches. Over a span of nearly two decades, numerous and diverse models of the Bubbleback were produced. As a precursor to Rolex's Datejust series, contemporary watches no longer feature the distinctive back design of the Bubbleback. The exaggerated domed case back, though seemingly out of place by today's standards, imbues the Bubbleback with a unique aesthetic that serves as a hallmark of the golden age of wristwatches. If you are well-versed in this history, this retro design is an instant draw and a touchstone that resonates deeply.
I decided to revive this iconic model as a tribute to that era, and I’m thrilled that Baltany’s Bubbleback collection has resonated with enthusiasts who share a passion for vintage-inspired designs. The S4029 Bubbleback, launched in January 2022, became an instant hit upon its release, with the first production batch selling out almost immediately.
To perfectly capture the essence and soul of the Bubbleback while ensuring wearer comfort and enhancing the watch’s ruggedness and durability, the design, production, and craftsmanship of the Baltany Bubbleback faced considerable challenges.
The case back dimensions were modified three times,Made three sets of precision molds. A higher profile compromised wearing comfort and side-view aesthetics, while a lower profile risked diluting the iconic "bubble" essence that defines the Bubbleback's soul.
Given the vast array of styles within the Bubbleback series, we also had to confront the challenge of making comprehensive choices. We experimented with approximately thirty different combinations of dial craftsmanship, dial layouts, and hand designs, ultimately settling on the following distinct configurations.
S4028 Bubbleback with an Asia-style sub-seconds dial, featuring a California dial, powered by the Seagull ST1701 movement.
S4029 Bubbleback with a central three-hand layout, paired with the most classic Mercedes-style hands.
S4012 Bubbleback with a gold-toned bezel, featuring a specially produced white dial.
S4038 Bubbleback with a linen-textured silver dial, utilizing applied indices. Although linen dials are uncommon, their appearance in certain models is truly eye-catching.
S4039 Bubbleback with a quartz Roman numeral dial. Inspired by the natural yellowing of white dials over time, we produced two dials that closely mimic this aged effect: cream white and light yellow. both have sold out.
S4040 Bubbleback in the same style as the S4038, featuring an sub-seconds dial, while also incorporating a more modern-looking flash silver-yellow dial.

3、Vintage 1926 Oyster Case Tribute (March 2022)
In 1926, the world's first truly waterproof and dustproof watch, the 1926 Oyster watch, was born. Undoubtedly, the Oyster case is one of the most significant inventions in the history of watchmaking. Countless models from nearly all manufacturers now adopt the pioneering design of the Rolex Oyster case, incorporating some of its fundamental DNA into their own designs.
The vintage 1926 case, with its distinctive shape, draws inspiration from the Art Deco movement that was popular at the time and serves as the origin of all subsequent cushion-shaped case designs.
The bezel of the vintage 1926 Oyster case features a screw-down structure with a serrated, spiral-grooved design. This was initially a functional consideration, providing better grip when tightening the bezel, and later evolved into an integral part of watch decoration design, becoming the origin of all grooved bezel designs seen today, such as the "fluted bezel," "coin edge bezel," and "willow leaf bezel."
The 1926 Oyster watch is celebrated in watchmaking history for these innovations, making it one of the most iconic and classic timepieces.
In tribute to this classic timepiece, Baltany decided in March 2022 to commence production of a series of Baltany 1926 vintage watches.
The lugs of the vintage 1926 watch were crafted using a welding process, with wire-like lugs that were neither convenient for strap attachment/detachment nor in line with modern aesthetic preferences.
The sharp, thin edges surrounding the entire vintage 1926 case also impacted its visual appeal and wearing comfort. The overall flat profile of the 1926 case limited the possibility of creating thick watches, necessitating the use of slimmer movements.
We had to address and resolve these issues during the design phase. After five rounds of model trials and improvements, we arrived at the final version that satisfies me.
While preserving the elegant aesthetics of the original design, we have refined the edges surrounding the watch to be more squared-off. We adopted a one-piece case construction technique to thicken the lugs, which are slightly curved upward to better fit the wrist's contour. The overall appearance strikes a balance between the "cushion-shaped" case and the original square-shaped 1926 case, not only facilitating the use of universal leather straps but also extending the lug-to-lug distance on the slender case, creating a visual impression that the watch is not small and can accommodate larger wrist sizes.
We are delighted that Baltany has become the first watch brand to reimagine the vintage 1926 watch, allowing enthusiasts to experience the charm of the 1926 antique watch at an affordable price. Following the market attention garnered by Baltany's series of 1926 tribute watches, more brands have begun to use Baltany's 1926 case design as a template for producing their own 1926 tribute watches.

4、Vintage Military-Style Chronograph (September 2022)
Following the success of the D12 tribute watch, Baltany began planning the production of a vintage military-style chronograph. The combination of vintage style, military aesthetics, and chronograph functionality is an intriguing yet niche concept, with only a few brands focusing on this segment.
Our endeavor has garnered much acclaim, and one particular model, the S5033 Vintage Military Chronograph, quickly sold out its initial batch after being featured in Jody's unboxing review video on the "Just One More Watch" channel on YouTube.
Baltany aimed to create a robust and durable chronograph suitable for daily use, blending modern style with ruggedness. Our first military-inspired chronograph, the S5033, draws inspiration from the vintage "Dirty Dozen" classic military watches, featuring a 39mm size. The bold, vintage military-style white Arabic numerals not only enhance readability but also allow for the addition of more luminescent material to boost nighttime visibility. The triangular hour markers enable more precise reading of the chronograph seconds hand and complement the red triangular design of the chronograph seconds hand itself. We've added a bent design and red accents to the chronograph seconds hand to enhance the watch's sporty feel.
The overall dial layout is symmetrical. In terms of luminescence, it continues the dual-color luminescent design of the Baltany Dirty Dozen S2019 watch. The highly polished sword-shaped hour and minute hands and triangular hour markers feature a vintage-colored luminescence, while the Arabic numerals and small seconds hand utilize BGW9 luminescence. The case, like that of the Baltany Dirty Dozen S2019, is made of 316L stainless steel with a sandblasted finish, paired with a screw-down crown and chronograph pushers, along with a highly transparent sapphire crystal glass.
The combination of a sapphire crystal, solid water resistance, excellent luminescence, and the VK61 movement makes the Baltany S5033 an ideal choice for users seeking a military-style watch that offers daily durability without the hassle of mechanical movement maintenance. As Jody praised, the S5033 sets a new benchmark in its price range.
After its launch, the Baltany S5033 has continued to garner attention. Despite several brands introducing nearly identical copy designs, the S5033 has remained a steady seller for us due to its exceptional quality.
Subsequently, we have also introduced:
Baltany S5045, An upgraded military chronograph with a date function and three sub-dial.
Baltany S5044, A vintage military-style chronograph featuring a "panda dial" layout.
Baltany S6070, A military chronograph equipped with a solar movement.

5、Vintage 1921 Dress Watch (October 2023)
The 1921 is a rare and unique watch, featuring a crown positioned on the left side of the lugs and a slanted dial. Many regard it as a driver's watch, which may well have been the original intention when Vacheron Constantin first designed this timepiece. On the centenary of its birth, VC reintroduced this variants of this retro 1921 model in 2021 as a tribute to this classic.
In fact, when Baltany decided to pay homage to this model, it was simply out of a passion for craftsmanship. While circular cases allow for flexible allocation of the front bezel and dial dimensions to achieve optimal visual effects, the square case of the retro 1921 watch is entirely different. Its bezel is quite limited, making the entire watch's dial appear larger, which poses challenges to both the watch's structure and assembly.
Nevertheless, we decided to give it a try because we enjoy taking on new challenges.
Because this model is so unique, there are just as many people who love it as there are people who hate it, For this venture, we decided to enhance our craftsmanship to increase our chances of success.
We made some adjustments to the dial craftsmanship.
Due to the narrow bezel, the entire dial appears to have more space, visually feeling a bit empty. To address this, we decided to add more dial details: firstly, we used a silver-white dial with a silver shimmer effect under light; secondly, we employed larger, three-dimensional hands; and thirdly, we utilized more intricately detailed retro applied indices instead of printed ones.
The Baltany S4046 and the higher-grade movement version, the Baltany S4055, two 1921 tribute watches, received considerable attention and positive reviews upon their launch in October 2023, and inspired other brands to follow suit in producing this model.
6,Vintage Pie Pan Dial Watch (Launching in April 2025)
Just like Bubbleback, "Pie Pan" is a well-known term among watch collectors. It refers to a dial design featuring a flat center and 12 faceted edges, with each corner meeting a hour marker. This design is aptly named "Pie Pan."
This design first appeared in Omega's inaugural Constellation collection. Although it is rarely used in modern watches, the "Constellation" series, which has continued to evolve, has undergone significant changes in its appearance and styling. The earliest vintage Constellation watches boasted unique aesthetic designs on their lugs, dials, and indices, embodying the distinctive charm of that era.
Baltany will be launching a series of vintage Pie Pan dials, with the S4090 with the 9039 automatic movement was available, followed by other new versions.

These are modern remakes of some of the main vintage models since the founding of Baltany. Many people refer to this type of watch as a “Homage Watches” , many micro-brand watches are known for producing “Homage Watches”.
"Homage Watches" seem to have become an overused term that has caused dissatisfaction among many. Our understanding of "Homage" stems from a spiritual level—it is genuinely rooted in a passion for watch culture and an appreciation for vintage timepieces.
The series of "Homage Collections" produced by Baltany aims to explore significant watch models in watch history, integrating our team's understanding of watches and vintage culture, utilizing modern technology, conforming to contemporary aesthetics, and delivering high-quality, robust, durable, and affordable everyday watches. Our goal is to enable more individuals who appreciate watch history and culture to easily own and experience the charm of vintage timepieces. Therefore, we have our own criteria for model selection and do not merely cater to market trends:
Respect for Intellectual Property
We are passionate about vintage watch culture and uphold respect for intellectual property as a non-negotiable principle. Every design concept undergoes rigorous vetting to ensure originality and compliance with this commitment.
Careful Model Selection
Our mission is to revive vintage watches. Vintage culture unites our team, and all our model choices, watch element usage, and style design and development are closely linked to "vintage."
High-Quality Craftsmanship
Quality is a commitment we uphold in every watch, and we are continually striving for improvement. If you become a loyal Baltany customer, you will witness the ongoing enhancement in Baltany watch quality and craftsmanship.
The narrative continues unabated: What future models lie in store? The surprises have just begun.
IV.The Integration of Classic Vintage Elements in Baltany Retro Watches
The manufacturing processes of watches have been evolving and advancing continuously, yet some classic design languages and craftsmanship techniques have been passed down and remain in use, shining brilliantly in watches of the new era.
Classic vintage elements and watch design languages are integral parts of vintage watches. Some things, upon their inception, have become representatives of a certain spirit, emotion, or even a specific era. When we gaze upon these elements again, our emotions naturally connect with them somewhere. As instruments for recording time, watches inherently merge with the spirit of vintage in this regard.
However, aesthetics are evolving and developing. Our vintage designs must conform to contemporary aesthetics rather than clash with them. This requires not only a profound understanding of these elements but also a clear insight into the aesthetics of the current era. Our design expression is a symphony of modernity and vintage, not a simple assembly.
Blueing Hands
Blueing hands (blue steel hands) represent a highly iconic decorative technique in traditional watchmaking craftsmanship. The hands, crafted from stainless steel or carbon steel, are heated in a sealed furnace at temperatures ranging from 230°C to 300°C. The surface of the steel reacts with oxygen to form a dense film of magnetite (Fe₃O₄), resulting in a gradient hue ranging from purplish-red to deep blue—light brown (approximately 230°C) → purple (270°C) → deep blue (300°C). Artisans rely on experience to master the heating process, as any misstep can lead to overheating, causing the steel to turn black or result in uneven coloration.
Each blueing hand is individually handcrafted, yielding a low success rate. Unlike monotonous electroplated blue or chemically dyed finishes, the deep blue hue achieved through blueing is permanently stable and fade-resistant. The color is profoundly elegant, transitioning from indigo to black-blue under varying lighting conditions, and forms a striking contrast against white dials and precious metal cases. This technique, blending aesthetics with functionality, has long been a hallmark of high-end watchmaking.
Blueing hands transcend mere technicality; they embody the poetic expression of watchmaking art—a touch of blue within a confined space that encapsulates the dialogue between fire and time.
Blueing hands are a classic vintage element featured in Baltany’s vintage-inspired watches.
MOP Dials
MOP dials (Mother-of-Pearl dials) are celebrated for their distinctive luster, texture, and iridescent color shifts.
Derived from the inner layers of deep-sea mollusks (such as abalone, pearl oysters, and Pinctada maxima), MOP is primarily composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) and organic matter. After polishing, the microscopic structure of the shell layer interacts with light through interference and diffraction, creating iridescent hues of blue, purple, pink, and green that vary with viewing angles. Each dial features a unique texture, making it a prized natural material in fine watchmaking for its fusion of luxury and artistry.
Baltany utilizes MOP dials in several vintage-inspired models, including S4071, S4015, and S4036.
Dome-shaped glass
The domed glass (also known as arched glass) is a hallmark of classic watch design, characterized by a gently curved surface that slopes downward to seamlessly integrate with the case.
A perfect fusion of horological craftsmanship and vintage aesthetics, domed glass elevates timepieces beyond mere instruments into light-played artistry – from the nostalgic warmth of acrylic to the modern brilliance of sapphire crystal.
At Baltany, we employ sapphire crystal for all our watches. Crafting domed sapphire glass poses significant technical challenges, resulting in higher production costs. Yet, to authentically recreate the vintage charm, we insist on using sapphire domed crystals in numerous models, honoring our uncompromising commitment to both heritage and innovation.
Railway Track Scale
In the 19th century, with the railway system relying heavily on precise timing, railroad companies (such as the Ball Watch Company in the United States) demanded that pocket watches feature highly readable minute scales, making the railway track scale a standard design. Entering the early 20th century, maritime chronometers and early pilot watches (like the Longines Lindbergh Hour Angle) continued to use railway track scales to ensure clear time-reading. Typical models include the Omega Railmaster (a 1957 antimagnetic railway watch) and Longines' classic reissue pilot watches.
The railway track scale refers to a concentric circle design for the minute/second scale ring on the outer edge of the watch dial, resembling old-fashioned railway tracks, hence the name. Its inspiration comes from the precision scale systems of early railroad pocket watches, maritime chronometers, and classic wristwatches. Typically located on the outer edge of the dial and distributed in a circular pattern, it is used for precise reading of minutes or seconds, combining functionality with decorative appeal.
Due to its historical usage and aesthetic characteristics, the railway track (or railroad minute track) scale has become a key design element in retro-style watches. Baltany incorporates this feature across numerous vintage military-style watch models and select dress watches.
Vintage Fonts
Elegant Breguet Numerals, bold Cathedral Numerals, sleek Art Deco Arabic Numerals, Vintage Roman Numerals, and so on—different classic vintage fonts exhibit distinct aesthetic qualities and appear in vintage watches of varying styles.
Breguet Hands
Breguet hands are a highly iconic design element in vintage watches, first created by master watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747–1823) in the late 18th century, and they remain a symbol of classical elegance to this day.
V.The exploration of Baltany watch team into nostalgic culture and vintage style
We combine authentic vintage inspiration with modern watchmaking techniques. From original designs that incorporate historical elements, to the ageing process that gives a watch its own story before it leaves the factory, Baltany strives to make each timepiece a bridge between two eras, not only in terms of watchmaking skills, but also in terms of a philosophy of time, materials and emotions.
1、Original Design Vintage-Style Watches
Apart from "paying tribute" and incorporating more of our own interpretations and reflections in the process, we are also striving to experiment with original designs for vintage-style watches. Of course, I must admit that we are making compromises to the market. "Originality" is our pursuit, but it will be a gradual process.
Drawing inspiration from the characteristics of bronze and old-time ship rudders, we have originally designed the S4030 vintage watch.
Inspired by vintage military-style watches, we have designed the S6070 vintage military chronograph using a solar movement.
2、Aging Techniques Enhance the Unique Charm of Baltany's Vintage Watches
Time is the sculptor of all things; some items, after being polished by time, exhibit the sedimentation of years. It is precisely this unique charm that, unlike the pursuit of a "brand-new as if just out of the box" appearance, appeals to those who are fascinated by vintage watches, who prefer the distinctive flavor imparted by the baptism of time. Baltany has been constantly experimenting with different aging techniques to better convey the vintage feel of its watches.A.Aged Luminous
Baltany exclusively uses warm-toned Super-LumiNova lume on all its luminescent watches, achieving a glow reminiscent of aged radium or tritium coatings. Despite the higher cost and lower brightness compared to C3-grade lume, we persist with Super-LumiNova GL Old for its unparalleled alignment with vintage-inspired aesthetics.
B.Bronze Aging
Bronze naturally oxidizes over time, developing a unique patina. The oxidation process—shaped by the wearer’s lifestyle, environmental humidity, and air composition—creates distinct "verdigris" effects. This organic "cultivation" transforms each watch into a one-of-a-kind artifact.
Baltany has experimented with bronze materials in select models to harness this dynamic aging phenomenon.
C.Handcrafted Case Aging
We have also employed electroplating combined with hand-aging techniques in the S4015 and S4036 models, giving the entire case a mottled appearance akin to that of a well-used timepiece.
D. Handcrafted Hands Aging Process In the Baltany S4091 model, we have also utilized hand-aged hands to produce gold-colored hands with a subtle oxidized feel.
E.Dial Aging Process We employed small-batch hand-aged dials in the B3008 model for personalized custom watches, all of which have now been sold out.
F.Electroplating Aging Technique
Gold-plated cases gradually transition to a lighter gold hue over extended wear.We have applied a mixed electroplating technique in some models with gold cases, such as the S4046G and S4090G, to not only enhance the durability of the surface color but also give it an aged gold appearance that evokes the passage of time.
3.Color Exploration: Expressing Vintage Style Through Different Hues
In vintage-inspired watch design, color transcends mere aesthetics—it becomes a conduit for emotional resonance. The allure of vintage watches stems not only from their materials and craftsmanship but also from the meticulous application of color. By selecting colors that evoke a sense of history and wear, watches can be imbued with a unique historical charm, making the vintage style more layered and expressive.
When curating colors for any Baltany model, we consider not only technical feasibility and alignment with vintage sensibilities but also envision how each base tone evolves under the influence of temporal wear.
For instance, white enamel dials oxidize to a yellow hue, leading to the creation of the enamel yellow and cream white dials in the S4039 model, as well as the off-white dial in the S4015 model.
Brown dials oxidize to a tropical brown shade, which is why we see distinctive browns in the S4029, S5054, and S4066 models.
Additionally, we have utilized a smoky brown hue in the S4084 and S2081 models.
4.Fusion of vintage and Modern Styles
A vintage watch with an aged aesthetic, yet also a robust timepiece suitable for daily use in various occasions, Baltany watches not only strive to meticulously present a vintage style but also contemplate and practice how to manufacture more durable and sturdy watches.
Firstly, we opt for robust materials. We choose 316L stainless steel, Cusn8 bronze, and exclusively use the toughest sapphire crystal.
Secondly, we endeavor to enhance water resistance. Our minimum requirement for water resistance testing is 50 meters, and we employ screw-down crowns on most of our watches to maximize water resistance. Thirdly, we apply special hardening treatments to the watch surfaces using modern techniques. Baltany has utilized this process on many models to enhance the surface hardness of the watches, enabling them to resist scratches incurred during daily use.
5.Vintage Culture Embodied Across the Brand
Beyond the watches themselves,we have upgraded our brand packaging, brand logo, and website style to achieve consistency and a vintage feel in our overall image. Baltany upgraded its packaging in September 2024, with the core concept of "time travel." We adopted an envelope and drawer-style gift box with gold-stamped/embossed text, making the unboxing process a part of the vintage experience. The original timewheel emblem has evolved into a retro-serif "B" monogram, now discreetly engraved on dials and crowns.
In the future, we will continue to launch surprising vintage watch collections and plan to expand through brand merchandise, extending the vintage lifestyle and covering users' daily scenarios with these products
For Baltany, vintage is not a trend, but a language. It is a language spoken through the bronze patina that changes over time, through the carefully blended vintage color palette, and through the modern pursuit of durability behind every detail. From case craftsmanship to packaging design, we are building a complete universe of vintage aesthetics. In the future, we will continue to explore more possibilities of time, so that each watch is not only a recorder of time, but also a declaration of a unique attitude towards life.
In every intersection where the second hand meets the minute hand, Baltany weaves poetic narratives about time through metal and light-shadow interplay. Approaching history with humility, we disassemble the past through modern craftsmanship and reassemble classics—the rugged dial of the D12 military watch conceals the rigor of wartime codes, the bubble-back domed glass refracts the mechanical romance of the 1930s, and the serrated texture of the 1926 Oyster case still echoes the revolution of waterproof technology.
Over the past four years, we have evolved from reverent replication to original exploration, from embracing the unpredictability of bronze oxidation to mastering the precise temperature control of fire-blued hands. Every detail is a nostalgic nod to a golden era. These timepieces are not specimens in a museum but living legacies: they adorn the wrists of programmers as they type, hover beside divers' deep-sea masks, and rest quietly on leather desk pads during business meetings—using the precision aesthetics of the industrial age to resist the fragmentation of time in the digital torrent. Baltany's mission remains unchanged: to rebirth the soul of vintage watches at an accessible price. When we speak of "vintage," we truly discuss humanity's gentle obsession with eternity—in the tremor of gears meshing, in the fading glow of luminescent coatings, we gaze upon the same starry sky as our forefathers.
The story continues to unfold, and the next chapter may lie within the box you are about to open.
